Tyson Press reviews

Tyson Press had a birthday today June 7.th 2013 where they are a year older, time flies ! but we owe this to our customers and the help and work they have given us over the last year. Long may continue and thank you.

Dear Tyson Press

We got them and I’m chuffed it !

Thanks with all you help with this.

regards

It’s great to get these types of comment from clients. Hype Magazine for Southampton Solent University  was great and everyone loved it, particularly the client whim we got more work from as a result.

Clients like Adam appreciate the added value we offer to make the process as smooth as possible, in the case of Hype Magazine we uploaded, check, proofed and reproofs the magazine a number of times before we got the job into a position of readiness for printing.

Funding like all things took a while which frustrated the editor Rachel Lamb who was fantastic to deal with but we got there in the end and the job was produced last summer and the client distributed them all

We like to produce student magazines here it’s a Students often first baptism into publish and printing and as a result they are very open and their expectations are zero as they have nothing to compare it to. This is where we come in and educate the client to show them what is involved and they emerge more equipped than before for their next issue.

Naturally like all clients as soon as the magazine proofs are approved they are excited and are desperate to get their hands on a copy of the finished publication but it is tempered with realism and they as younger people are not cynical or difficult and are prepared to work with us to achieve the final objective.

Tyson Press are grateful to Adam , Rachel and the team at Southampton Solent University to let us work on this job.

Tyson Press artwork report

Here is Tyson Press Pre Flight check results for the Religious book artwork. We require attention to at the very least the parts in red

Content:

  • 1 RGB image detected on page  ( black pages should be black only )
  • Fonts not embedded  ( all fonts must be embedded )
  • Low resolution images found  ( ideally images should be 300 dpi )

Cover:

  • Requires assembly into a single printer’s spread ( back cover, spine and front cover should be assembled as one long image )

Front Cover:

  • Bleed not recognised ( 3mm bleed is required on all outfacing edges where artwork runs off the edge of the page )
  • No crop marks ( crop marks are preferable )
  • Contain ICC profile ( ICC Profiles should be switched off )

Back Cover:

  • Bleed not recognised ( 3mm bleed is required on all outfacing edges where artwork runs off the edge of the page )
  • No crop marks ( crop marks are preferable )
  • Contain ICC profile  ( ICC Profiles should be switched off )

Spine:

  • Bleed not recognised ( 3mm bleed is required on all outfacing edges where artwork runs off the edge of the page )
  • No crop marks ( crop marks are preferable )
  • Contain ICC profile ( ICC Profiles should be switched off )

Cost to fix the basics to ensure the file will print is £6XXk.  This will cover embedding missing fonts and assembling the cover into a single printer’s spread with a bleed and crop marks.

To ensure the best quality printing will require the low resolution images to be upscaled to 300dpi.  This will add an additional £XX, bringing the total cost to fix up to £XX.

Imprintint

Tyson Press do not insist that their customers have their accreditation in your book

We sometimes print for trade customers and these trade customers may have the equipment to produce books but are simply too busy to manufacture during busier times of the year. At such times they may decide to outsource the work to other printers such as ourselves to anonymously produce the work and help them out. They may sell the work to their customers for 25% greater than we invoice them so it is a good earner for them.

We naturally produce these trade jobs at very low rates to make the offer attractive. There are 9000 printers in the UK but only a small number that actually produce Hardbacks so trade work for Hardback Books is a reasonable part of our turnover.

For example we just produced 15,000 copies of a One Direction book for Asda’s but if you go in pick up a copy tomorrow, you will not find a mention of the word ”Tyson” in the copyright pages as we did the job for a Print Broker who wishes to keep his trade source ( ie. us ) confidential. Trade work is a big part of our business.

We are not that vain to demand our clients put our imprint in their books either.

Tyson Press don’t personally administer the sample packs we post so I’m unfamiliar the exact books we send out us but they will all be work undertaken by one of our reps for an intermediate of some kind, be it a Print Broker, Design Agency, Book Publisher or Trade Printer
